Preparation + Just Do It = Everything

The Starting Line

Last night, I had a dream that left me thinking about the delicate balance between preparation and action.

I was in the middle of an overnight ultra run—10 hours to go, but I wasn’t ready. My headlamp was missing, my phone battery was at 10%, and I realized I had forgotten my pack entirely. At one point, I found myself atop a 100-story building, unsure if climbing down was even the right path.

Somehow, I made it to the bottom. But when I got there, I knew I’d have to face the rest of the race with no light, no tools, and no backup plan.

The message was clear: preparation is essential—but it’s only half the equation.

The Path

Preparation is your foundation. It’s your plan, your tools, and your training. Without it, you’re setting yourself up for failure. But preparation alone isn’t enough.

You can pack perfectly, study every scenario, and create the ultimate game plan. But if you never take the leap—if you never start—you’ll go nowhere.

On the other hand, rushing in without preparation can leave you scrambling, vulnerable, and exposed when things inevitably go wrong. That’s why the equation only works when both parts are in balance.

In my dream, I had no choice but to keep going, even when I wasn’t prepared. And that’s the key: when preparation falls short, action takes over. You adapt, you adjust, and you move forward.

The Finish Line

Life isn’t about being perfectly ready. It’s about being ready enough to start, and brave enough to keep going when plans fall apart.

Prepare as much as you can. Then take the leap.

If you forget your headlamp, find another way to light your path. If you leave your pack behind, trust your resourcefulness. The race is about more than the gear you carry; it’s about the grit you bring when things go sideways.

Preparation + Just Do It = Everything.

Peace be the journey,
